I'm Roger Sherman, the voice behind Roger Eats.
After more than two decades working in Colorado politics and public affairs, I'm now devoting more time to a longstanding passion that’s always been a part of my life: food and travel. This journey has led me to uncover culinary secrets that enhance my foodie adventures.
I didn't exactly start out as a foodie. Growing up in a meat-and-potatoes household, I eventually became fascinated by restaurants, cooking, and the way food brings people together.
That curiosity has led me to experiences ranging from a Culinary Institute of America Boot Camp to a gastronomic adventure through Japan, along with years of memorable dinners, travel, and a decade of supper-club gatherings with friends. And, of course, I've eaten in a lot of restaurants.
Roger Eats is where I share those experiences—offering restaurant reviews that highlight places worth seeking out, memorable meals, hidden gems, and cocktails, along with culinary adventures and, occasionally, spots that don’t quite meet expectations.
Denver, Palm Springs & Wherever We Land
I split my time between Denver and Palm Springs, giving Roger Eats two distinctly vibrant restaurant scenes to explore. But we don't stay put for long.
My partner, Ernie, and I love to travel, and food is always a part of the adventure. Whether we’re exploring a neighborhood restaurant in Denver, trying someplace new in Palm Springs, or enjoying dinner halfway around the world, some of our best travel memories have begun at the table. That's why Roger Eats isn't bound by geography.
You’ll find plenty of Denver and Palm Springs restaurant reviews here, and you can join us when our travels lead to somewhere delicious. Some meals are extraordinary, some merely good, and occasionally, one is amusingly bad enough to spark an entertaining review.
I'll always tell you which is which.
What You'll Find on Roger Eats
Roger Eats isn't designed to be a traditional restaurant-review site, nor do I claim to be a professional food critic. I'm an enthusiastic amateur foodie with an opinion.
I care about what’s on the plate, the service, cocktails, atmosphere, history, and the personality of a restaurant. A technically perfect dish doesn't always guarantee a great evening; sometimes, simple comfort food in the right setting is exactly what you crave.
That's why you’ll find everything here from sushi and Italian food to neighborhood diners, craft cocktails, recipes, culinary adventures, and the occasional rant. My reviews stem from my own experiences. If I love a place, you’ll hear about it. If I’m disappointed, I’ll make that known too.
